I am completing the 30 day program for a second time! Something that happened yesterday caused me to take a really good look at my life. I did not plan this, but I see that an extended period of abstinence is the easiest and best course of action for me. This is a big revelation for me because years ago, when I first noticed that alcohol was a concern, I made the decision to commit to staying within my limit and I did it for 10 years. My plan with this book all along was to cut back to appropriate social drinking again and I will probably get there sometime because I do have so much experience with it. But appropriate social drinking is a different skill and it takes a lot of work and practice too. Right now, I see the best course of action in my life is abstinence. This is the first time in my life that I have ever made the decision to focus on abstinence. Yes, I have completed 30 days of abstinence but it was with the ultimate intention that I would return to appropriate drinking after the 30 day challenge. This is the first time in my life to really choose abstinence because I want to. Because it makes me feel better… not just to complete a 30 day challenge. I am not sure where this journey will lead me but I am sure that abstinence is the best for me right now.

This is so interesting to hear. I am on Day 12 and like you have pursued moderation in the past, but with varying results and have gone Alcohol free for periods to bring me back to moderate levels if they have been creeping up. I came into this with the intention of changing my relationship with alcohol which would enable me to be a ‘better’ moderate drinker. I am so curious though to know what I will feel at he end of this 30 days because this journey has been so empowering. The 100% commitment on Day 1 made a huge difference to be and I’ve been building on it ever since. I may well end up making the same decision you have made – who knows! I am just gonna trust he process. Good luck with your sobriety success girl!!
